Position Function

Manage laboratory preparation for biology courses; serve as a safety resource for the department; manage the departmental stockroom.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in biology, chemistry or related natural science by date of appointment.

Minimum Experience

At least 1 year of laboratory experience.

Minimum Other

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Bachelor's degree in microbiology or molecular biology.

Preferred Experience

More than three years of laboratory experience; supervisory or instructional experience.

Job Duty

Manage the laboratory preparation for biology courses; includes set-up, maintain, and dismantle laboratory experiments, demonstrations and equipment needed; prepare chemical solutions, reagents, and media for instructional laboratories; clean and adjust laboratory equipment; develop and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment needed for lab classes. Communicate with lab instructors regarding lab notes.

Manage the Biology stockroom; includes order, maintain, and dispense basic lab and safety supplies for biology courses and for research; includes fluorescent and germicidal light bulbs for laminar flow and bio-safety hoods; ethanol is ordered and dispensed under federal guidelines for department use.

Serve as the safety resource for Biology. Coordinate and dispose of chemical waste in accordance with Environmental, Health and Safety procedures through Environmental Health and Safety Office.

Support faculty, staff and students with vendor relations and orders; includes source items and handle returns; coordinate ordering and delivery of gas cylinders, maintenance of liquid nitrogen system, installation and in house training for new equipment; coordinate service calls for preventive maintenance, repairs and certifications, and assist with shipping.
