Job Description
Community College is a two-year, public institution of higher education and the fifth largest of the 23 community colleges in Virginia. Brightpoint Community College is seeking to fill a 12-month full-time teaching faculty position available for the Fall 2023 semester in information technology. The selected candidate will teach primarily information technology courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats. Full-time teaching responsibilities include teaching the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester, student advising, course evaluation and development, serving on division and college committees, and the ability to attend and represent Brightpoint Community College at community events and professional meetings and conferences. Teaching assignments may be at both campuses to include a mix of day, night, and/or online classes. The selected candidate will also serve as a department chair with responsibilities to: Oversee the development of the program. Evaluate the overall curriculum and make suggestions to strengthen the program as needed. Develop course schedules. Manage the recruitment of adjunct faculty. Collaborate with faculty and staff from other departments and divisions to promote communication, coordinate programs, and support student success. Prepare clear learning outcomes for each course, and inform students of learning outcomes in a course syllabus. Participate in college service and activities outside direct instruction, such as registration, curriculum development, and strategic planning. Organize and lead outreach activities and supports student recruitment, placement, and retention. Keep professionally current by participating in professional development. Aid in the development of faculty. Develop program assessments. Advise students. Participate in committee, departmental, and faculty meetings. Work with local employers and government officials to ensure students obtain the skills needed to enter the IT workforce.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
A master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate-level credits in a computer related field. At least 2 years of IT work experience. College level teaching experience and/or relevant work experience. Experience in training, conducting workshops, and/or teaching IT concepts. Demonstrated ability to effectively use instructional technologies. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills. Willingness to adopt and teach new and emerging technologies and commitment to meeting the needs of and providing instruction to diverse populations. Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, distance-learning and/or course development. A sound understanding of the subject matter. Excellent networking abilities. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of industry-related credentials related to IT and/or emerging technologies. Prior teaching higher education institution, and/or prior community college teaching experience.
