Account Specialist
The George Mason University, Student Fiscal Services Office, invites candidates to apply for the Account Specialist position. This position reports to the Associate Director, Student Accounts.

Responsibilities:
- The Account Specialist works collaboratively with Third-Party Billing, Account and Loan Management, Financial Aid, University Registrar, Mason Student Services Center, and Accounts Payable offices.
- Assists with processing incoming correspondence, forms, and reports such as registration and withdrawal requests, refund requests, tuition exceptions, stop payments, exemptions, and account adjustments;
- Assists with daily mail including payments, return mail, and return/reissued checks;
- Processes refunds and analyzes accounts for further processing as needed and approval/posting;
- Completes daily review of control reports and performs periodic review of other required areas, such as Title IV checks, Credit Balance report and Unclaimed Property;
- Provides exemplary customer service, including answering incoming calls, email, and assisting with walk-in inquiries;
- Communicates the financial policies and procedures of the university to students, parents, agencies, and staff;
- Makes recommendations for resolution of problems within given guidelines;
- Assists other Student Accounts Office staff with account maintenance and other tasks as assigned, including performing collections efforts focusing on “at risk” accounts; and
- Displays initiative and seeks additional responsibility and training opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in business, accounting, or equivalent professional experience;
- Demonstrated experience in accounts receivable, account analysis, and reconciliation;
- Demonstrated successful job experience requiring attention to detail and hands-on work;
- Well organized individual with strong interpersonal/communication skills;
- Demonstrated experience in customer service; and
- Knowledge of student privacy laws.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Banner Student System.
