General Summary
The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) I.T. department is responsible for adding value in the form of IT services to the College of Arts & Sciences and its units so that they are enabled to achieve their overall objectives and goals. We do this in many ways which includes developing websites and web applications for various units like academic departments, faculty, research studies, and other initiatives within CAS.
The Front-End Designer/Developer will improve and maintain our existing sites, help inform our customer's digital strategies, and develop innovative, effective, and beautiful websites. We are a small team and everyone has the opportunity and responsibility to be involved in many aspects of each project which typically varies from project to project.
This position requires close coordination with the WEB & Interactive Communication and University Marketing offices as well as other campus IT units to align with institutional strategies. This position also serves as a mentor to students by providing training, monitoring, and appropriately utilizing the student staff in day-to-day operations.

Required Qualifications
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Any combination totaling two (2) years from the following categories:
A. progressively more responsible work experience in a role that included web development (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, or similar).
B. college course work which included web development, front-end design, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one (1) year
- 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree equals two (2) years - A strong technical aptitude with a demonstrated ability and desire to learn new skills and remain knowledgeable of industry trends and technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to write and verbally communicate in a professional manner with customers of all experience levels and with colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking to solve complex problems.
- Demonstrated ability to learn coding with Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act, ADA, WCAG 2.0 compliance, and other applicable requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to align organizational goals with prioritization of work.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor student assistants, typically including Graduate Assistants.
- Demonstrated ability to implement, collaborate, and to advise regarding University branding and identity management.
- Strong knowledge of user interface best practices and understanding of user centered design process considering multiple devices and browsers.
- Strong standards compliant HTML5, CSS3 skills, static site generators like Jekyll and 11ty, versioning source control systems like GitLab, Google Analytics skills, and using debugging tools like Chrome’s Developer Tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to consistently meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical support remotely and on-campus.
Desired Qualifications
- Working knowledge of Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act, ADA, WCAG 2.0, and other applicable requirements and the ability to maintain this understanding as requirements change.
- Ability to effectively implement SEO best practices.
- Ability to administer WordPress environments or similar content management system administration.
- Working knowledge of OU Campus Omni CMS.
- Knowledge of, and passion for Illinois State University and higher education.
Work Hours
8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Weekend or after-hours work may be required to respond to critical incidents, support emergency change management, or disaster recovery.

$22.00 - $24.00 per hour
