The Citizen is seeking a full-time sports reporter to join its award-winning staff in Auburn. This position would cover primarily high school sports in the Cayuga County area, but anything that's 1) athletic and 2) local is fair game. Proficiency at taking photos and videos with a smartphone and posting on social media is expected, and photography skills are a bonus.

The Citizen, located in Auburn, is a newspaper in Cayuga County. We print three times a week, but our first priority is generating stories and multimedia for our website, auburnpub.com. Along with Auburn we cover all the towns and villages of Cayuga County, which lies between Syracuse, Rochester and Ithaca. We also cover some towns and villages immediately outside the county, such as the lakeside village of Skaneateles. (We do not cover anything outside that area, such as Syracuse University sports or the Buffalo Bills.)

Our ideal candidate will bring some sports writing experience and enthusiasm for small-town journalism to The Citizen. The schedule will be based on both the candidate's preference and coverage needs. Residing in the Auburn area, or relocating there, will be all but necessary due to the number of local games the candidate will be covering. However, the candidate can otherwise work remotely, or in our new office in Auburn.

A bachelor's degree in journalism and/or some experience covering sports at a journalistic publication is preferred. Along with your resume, please include a cover letter, at least three published clips and three professional references.
