Full Time Faculty, Accounting (Open Rank)

Summary:
The Brown School of Business & Leadership (BSOBL) is seeking a full-time faculty member to teach a variety of accounting courses at the undergraduate level in the IACBE-accredited Accounting and Business Administration programs. This is a full-time, 9-month, open-rank faculty position with responsibilities for teaching, course development, student advising and mentoring, service to the school, department, and university, and continued scholarship in the field. Teaching responsibilities include 24-30 contact hours per academic year, commensurate with rank. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, student recruitment, retention, and placement efforts; and engagement in the life of the university. The Full-Time Faculty, Accounting fulfills all responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as defined in the Stevenson University Policies and the BSOBL Full-Time Faculty Job Description. Rank and title will be determined at the time of hiring and will be commensurate with education and experience.

Department: School of Business & Leadership: Accounting

Education/Experience:
A doctorate in Accounting or related field is preferred, but candidates with a Master’s Degree in Accounting, M.B.A., or master’s degree in a related field along with professional certification such as CPA or CMA will be considered. Practical accounting experience in public accounting, business, non-profit, or government accounting, and prior college-level teaching experience are also strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time and the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time.

Essential Functions:
Instructional
  • Teach 24-30 credit hours per year, commensurate with rank, as assigned.
  • Teaching responsibilities include time spent in face-to-face courses and in immediate preparation for them; preparing teaching materials; conferring with and providing timely feedback to students on course-related matters; directing individual and group studies; reviewing projects and papers; evaluating assignments, examinations, presentations, and other course work in timely fashion; supervising independent study projects; and submitting mid-term and final grades. Stevenson University uses the BlackBoard course management system.
  • Administrative responsibilities include writing and/or updating syllabi each semester or term; reading and responding to emails; attendance verification, academic alerts, and other reports as requested; and alerting appropriate university personnel to student concerns on a timely basis.
  • Maintain teaching effectiveness by encouraging active student learning, reflecting and responding to student evaluations of teaching, and adjusting teaching strategies per recommendations from classroom observations, supervisor evaluations, and other relevant sources of feedback.
  • Prepare courses and syllabi in accordance with published faculty guidelines.
  • Schedule and hold at least three office hours per week.
  • Conduct student advising activities including time spent providing students with support, resources, and/or recommendations regarding academic, curricular, career and/or graduate school matters.
  • Evaluate, update, and revise courses regularly.
  • Participate in the assessment activities of the Program, Department, School, and University.
  • Evaluate, update and revise courses regularly.
  • Attend meetings and/or workshops related to education (e.g., teaching methods, assessment).
  • Implement new teaching methods in existing courses (includes incorporating evidence-based practice).
  • Mentor students in research courses and/or projects related to specialty scholars program requirements.
  • Serve as course coordinator for course(s) as requested, including the implementation of new teaching methods, strategies or tools in accounting courses.
  • Provide course coordinators and/or Academic Program Administrator with all required course data, as related to course and program assessment and/or accreditation.
  • Evaluate and revise curricula as warranted and/or requested.
  • Conceive and develop new courses to expand academic offerings in accounting as requested.
  • Participate in general curriculum development, assessment, and other departmental activities associated with a full-time university teaching position.
  • Teaching assignments may require teaching day or evening classes as needed.


Service
  • Department service includes contributing to student recruitment, retention, and registration efforts; attending departmental and school meetings; participating in Open Houses and recruiting efforts; attending and participating in planning and coordination of departmental and school events; and establishing professional relationships to generate placement opportunities for students.
  • University service includes, but is not limited to, service on the University, School and Departmental committees.
  • Engage and participate in the life and work of the department, School of Business & Leadership, and Stevenson University.
  • Attend all Faculty/Staff University, School, and Department meetings.
  • Attend all convocations, including convocation and commencement exercises.
  • Participate in faculty governance.
  • Mentor students (e.g., club moderator, mentoring programs – distinguished from guiding research or academic pursuits)
  • Actively participate on Department, School, and University committees.
  • Participate in recruitment and yield events.
  • Participate in Department, School, and University assessment activities, including, but not limited to, annual assessment of courses and periodic assessments of programs for University and/or accreditation purposes.
  • Mentor and advise new faculty.
  • Serve on Faculty Mentoring and Evaluation Committee(s) as requested.
Scholarly Activity
  • Develop and maintain self-directed intellectual pursuits, including research, that enhance teaching effectiveness.
  • Conduct self-directed research with students (bench, educational, or other) of a quality that could lead to presentation or publication, including presentation/publication in venues dedicated to undergraduate research.
  • Engage in intellectual pursuits outside of the classroom that are related to professional interests (e.g., grant-writing, peer review, authorship of texts, chapters and journal articles).
  • Attend workshops, meetings, and talks related to professional interests.
  • Attend meetings of professional societies.
  • Pursue and maintain relevant professional license(s) and/or certification(s).
