POSITION:A full-time, joint-appointed instructional academic staff position is available in the Latin American and Latinx Studies (LAS) program and the department of Public Health and Environmental Studies (PHES); start date negotiable. The candidate should have expertise in contemporary issues related to sustainability and their impact on communities in Latin America or Latinx communities in the US. The official title is in the Lecturer title series. This is a fixed-term,renewable appointment in the LAS program with salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Must be work authorized in the United States.
QUALIFICATIONS:An earned doctorate by August 19, 2024, from a regionally accredited university. ABD applicants may be considered but must complete the terminal degree by the start date. Must have disciplinary expertise in Latin America and/or Latinx related areas and environmental policy and/or sustainable development grounded in a contemporary perspective on the intersections of race, social justice, and the environment. The following will be considered assets: evidence of successful teaching at the collegiate level; demonstrated commitment to support and enhance the diversity and cultural and global awareness of students, faculty, and staff
DUTIES: Teach classes as assigned, engage in service to the LAS program, and contribute to the University's mission to achieve an equitable, diverse, and inclusive climate. Develop courses and provide instruction informed by current theories and advancements in Latin American and/or Latinx Studies and environmental and/or sustainability policies relating to Latin America and and/or its diaspora in the US and/or related geographic regions and issues. Classes assigned will depend on candidate's expertise, but these might include classes such as: Introduction to Latin American and Latinx Studies, Geography of Latin America, Economic Development of Latin America, Experiences of Minoritized Groups in U.S. Economy, Water Problems/Water Solutions, Sustainable Cities, U.S. Environmental and Sustainability Policy, International Environmental Problems and Policy.
THE UNIT: The Latin American and Latinx Studies program consists of 1.5 staff members (one faculty, one director) and numerous affiliate faculty and staff members from across the university. It is an interdisciplinary program that offers two separate majors, a minor, and a certificate composed of courses housed in the program as well as courses offered by other departments and programs. The department of Public Health and Environmental Studies consists of 5.5 staff members (a chair and five faculty including the director of our master's degree) supporting a broad range of academic programs including undergraduate degrees in environmental public health and public health, a Master of Public Health, two interdisciplinary minors in environmental studies and sciences, and a certificate in sustainability and climate.
