The Philadelphia VA Medical Center (PVAMC) and the Department of Neurosurgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. As Chief of Neurosurgery at PVAMC, the applicant will be expected to develop and lead a VA neurosurgery service focused on spine and functional neurosurgery with associated research programs. Candidates should have strong administrative, clinical and teaching skills, and a commitment to the broad mission of fostering outstanding clinical operations, program development, and research and educational excellence. The incumbent will lead the growing Neurosurgery Service at PVAMC, and will report directly to both the Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at PSOM and the Chief of Surgical Services at PVAMC. Expertise is required in the specific area of spine surgery and general neurosurgery. Applicants must have an M.D or M.D./Ph.D. degree. Preferred applicant must be ABNS Board eligible/certified and have completed a neurosurgery residency and spine fellowship.

Teaching responsibilities may include didactic education and supervision of neurosurgery medical students, residents, and fellows.

Clinical responsibilities may include comprehensive spine care and general neurosurgery care for the regional veteran population.

Opportunities may exist to participate in clinical research projects related to neurosurgery or neuroscience.
