The Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA) at Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a part-time Writer & PR Specialist. The Writer & PR Specialist creates engaging, accessible, and compelling content about the work of the ICA, its mission, and the creative collaborators and communities who contribute to the institution's vibrancy.

As a member of ICA's communications team, the Writer & PR Specialist works to elevate the ICA's profile through written, spoken, and visual communication; conducts media outreach and assists with media inquiries; collaborates on social media and newsletter content; identifies current trends that highlight the University's academic and research strengths; and monitors news coverage and assists with reporting results. The role has responsibilities in three core areas:

Storytelling: create original, accessible content for a wide variety of channels (web, social, PR, in-gallery) about the art and artists presenting work at the ICA, students and faculty contributions to the contemporary art community, and arts content related to VCU's strategic initiatives

Editorial Support: provide copywriting and editing services to internal clients from departments across the ICA, as well as the VCUarts Communications team

Public Relations: provide support so that the ICA can effectively engage with local, national, and international press to obtain coverage for high-profile projects

The person in this role must have: a strong knowledge of English grammar and Associated Press style; working knowledge of news-gathering techniques and public relations principles; excellent oral and written communication skills; and strong organizational and public relations skills.

As this role supports a dynamic workplace, the Writer & PR Specialist must also be able to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively with a wide variety of people.
